Many companies focus on the triple bottom line (TBL), which is considered social, environmental and financial. From a social perspective, servant-led companies tend to be more successful in the long run because “servant leadership” is a philosophy based on empathy rather than power plays. But we need to understand humility as an underlying principle of servant leadership. In fact, humility has a definitive role in business as Robert Max Wideman, researcher, author and project management expert, says: “Humility can contribute to the bottom line.”


“The Power of Humility” is about one person’s journey and lessons learned and still learning in the difference between leadership and management. One learns the difference between being proud and having false pride; literature tells us “pride goes before a fall”. I will share the key attributes of servant leadership and why they are beneficial for success in the workplace. I will also talk about how cultural influences color our perception of leadership as authority and control.

MEET OUR EXPERT: Yvonne Lumsden-Dill

Yvonne Lumsden-Dill speaks on “The Power of Humility”



Years of experience in corporate social responsibility (CSR) in embattled industries and nonprofit organizations helped Yvonne attain expertise in issues management and strategic implementation. CSR is not just about being a good corporate citizen and engaging community service. It is about motivating employees to be the best that they can be and leading to serve. Yvonne instills a blend of employee value proposition and business strategies that lead to achievement of solid company goals for her clients.


Yvonne has worked in environmental policy for the copper mining industry at ASARCO Incorporated, and in alcohol and public health in the consumer beverage industry at Miller Brewing Company. Since leaving corporate America, she was Managing Director of the Cardinal Stritch University Leadership Center and Executive Director of the Women’s Leadership Institute at Mount Mary College, places where she was responsible for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the organizations’ leadership programs and services.


Lumsden-Dill is a management and communications specialist in issues management, information analysis, implementation of public policy strategies, and stakeholder relationship building. She is a member of several boards and organizations in the greater Milwaukee area, including Volunteers of America of Wisconsin, Inc., Professional Dimensions, Waukesha County Business Alliance Inc.’s Professional Women’s Development Network, Waukesha County Land Conservancy, and the Steering Committee of Milwaukee Women inc., which works to change the face and quality of leadership in Wisconsin through the advancement of women.


Yvonne served as Wisconsin liaison to The White House Project and Rutgers’ University Center for American Women and Politics. She also served as the S.E. Wisconsin Regional Director for WW=P (Wisconsin Women = Prosperity), an economic development project initiated by Wisconsin Lt. Governor Barbara Lawton.


Yvonne completed Legal Studies in Corporate Management at Antioch University School of Law and gained a Master of Science in Management from Cardinal Stritch University. She is a past Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute and Brookings Institution, and a graduate of Harvard University’s Kennedy School and Rutgers University’s Eagleton Institute of Politics summer institutes.


Lumsden-Dill was named a “Woman of Influence” in the category of public policy by The Milwaukee Business Journal, and she received a Certificate in Recognition of Community Service from the United States Congress.


As a management and communications professional, Yvonne uses her skill sets and experiences to help people find their voice through leadership development training and education so that they take action to change or improve their worlds.
